Stemming from a nomadic family with roots in both Kenya and Jamaica, Jo was brought up in a house 2 miles from the nearest neighbour in the wilds of northern Scotland. That isolation and her family's itinerancy has lent her music a unique perspective. Her music combines a strongly human empathy for the world with a feeling that somehow she always remains an outsider, singing expansive lullabies as a commentary to our woes, our glories and our tragedies.
